Home Up

When I bought the KR it had the original retracts, and the hand cable operated drum brakes.  I have enough things to worry about so I changed to the much better fixed gear with Great Plains hydraulic brakes.  I will probably make wheel pants some day, but that can wait until after I get it flying.

This picture shows the hydraulic disc brake on the Diehl gear.

I originally had the small shopping cart type wheel.  I changed to a good Matco tailwheel.  I made the leaf springs from two leafs of 1095 annealed spring steel and I had them spring tempered at a heat treating shop.  This tailwheel and spring setup gets the tail up a lot more than the original wheel.  That was very important since the main gear legs are longer than the retracts and I had no forward visibility with the original tailwheel.

Here is another view of the Matco tailwheel.
